My mom never had a chance to finish her studies; my siblings and I knew that she always wanted to go back to school. She tried to enroll in an alternative school before but it was never easy for her. And one of the biggest factor that made her gave up was when someone told her that she’s too old to study. I was young back then, and I don’t know how to encourage my mom that we should never stop learning, even how old we get.
But that closed her mind and until now we are still trying to convince her to continue. We keep on telling her that education is not just inside a four-corner room. We can learn everywhere, in any way – only if we choose to.
One of the best things about life is that we never have to stop learning. There are tons of ways to feed our minds, especially now that our technology is booming and almost everything is accessible online.
There’s a lot of reasons to continuously learn. Whether it’s from reading or developing a new hobby, there are so many ways to stay educated and keep your knowledge up to date.
Why should learning be in your best interest? Here’s 5 reasons :
For Self Improvement
If we want to live life to the fullest, we must continually look for ways to improve. As they say, “Mastery is self improvement”. Most of us think that as we age, studying can be very tough because we tend to forget a lot of things and chewing on new bits of information can be a hard process. We’re totally wrong about that! One way to keep your memory sharp and agile is to learn something new, perhaps starting a new hobby or taking in a new task. We can keep our brain fit and healthy by challenging it. Just like our body, our brains need exercise, too!
God has given us gifts that we can use to live a fulfilling life. Self education is the key to truly master a craft. We should always find ways to improve, to learn and apply new skills. Aiming to be a better version of ourselves is helpful in achieving our goals.
It Brings More Happiness, So Never Stop Learning
Learning can be tough. Especially if you are trying to learn something for the first time. But the fruit of perseverance is always a sweet success. Studies have shown that the more ambitious goals we set, the happier we are. And when we personally set our goals, our happiness is no longer reliant unto others. We choose our pace of learning and how much information we’re loading our brains – this is a personal development that brings happiness from within.
It Boosts Your Confidence
When I started working from home, I was so clueless and I don’t know what to bring to the table. That thought made me doubt my capacity. Whenever I tried to apply for a job, I ended up asking myself – can I do it? And since I have already set my goals, I strive to be efficient. I did not just go online and look for courses and dig into them. I focused on what I think I can do best. Since I am a beginner, I improved on my already acquired skills, which is customer service and admin assistance. Although I have an extensive experience with those skills, working at home, virtually, is a way, way different than working in an office. You will have to work by yourself, with a very minimal help. And if you don’t know what you’re doing – you won’t survive it.
Continuous learning not only gives you the confidence to discuss thoughts and ideas and back them up with the newest things you’ve learned, but it’ll also make you shine!
You may be surprised at what you can do and how much you can achieve when you always put your mind to a new challenge.
You’ll Stay Humble
Nobody wants a know-it-all. We should always admit that we are clueless and we should never stop learning. When we realize that we don’t have all the answers, we will strive to gain (more) wisdom and continuously learn.
Every interaction we’ll have is a chance to learn – and admit that someone is better than us. Learning is a great reminder to stay humble and not to boast. Because at the end of the day, we are all learners, with different learning curves, and must not look down to others.
You Feel Fulfilled
Remember when we were younger, we only want to study and that’s our sense of purpose. Sadly, some of us stop learning after graduation. That shouldn’t be the case. I still believe that experience is our best teacher. When we have goals, we use all our resources to achieve them. We educate ourselves, we make plans and we fulfill our dreams.
Learning can give us a fulfilled life. No other treasures here on earth can replace the wisdom that we’ve learned and will continue learning.
Wisdom is a shelter as money is a shelter, but the advantage of knowledge is this: Wisdom preserves those who have it. -Ecclesiastes 7:12
Never stop learning because life never stops teaching.
